Heavy snow cancels racing
After a few weeks of clear blue skies it’s great to see snow falling again over the Milky Way. The timing could have been slightly better as the poor visibility and fresh snow has meant that all racing this weekend in Sestriere has been cancelled.
The organisers of the womens downhill and super combined said in a statement this morning that in places on the course upto 30cm of snow had fallen over night. Great news for us but not so great for the racers.
I was skiing last week on the runs to the left of the race course and the conditions were fantastic so with all this fresh snow we’ve had this weekend the Sestriere pistes and indeed the whole of the Milky Way will be in top condition.
The snow and low cloud is set to continue through to Monday with it starting to break up Tuesday. Temperatures are set to remain low for the foreseeable future. All runs and links are open. A good week lies ahead!
