Riding is not just for winter
sauzeonline started back in 2005 to help skiers and snowboarders plan their winter trips to Sauze d’Oulx. Over the past few years we’ve noticed an increase in the number of people asking about the biking on offer here in Sauze d’Oulx and the surrounding area during the summer months. As the questions are increasing each year we thought it would be a good idea to share our knowledge and hopefully answer many of the questions along with providing as much useful information as we can to those wishing to enjoy Sauze d’Oulx and the surrounding area on 2 wheels. After all, the fun doesn’t stop when the snow melts!
If flowing with gravity and the natural terrain is your thing then Sauze d’Oulx offers some fantastic downhill tracks. The bike park is one of 8 locations that make up the Alpi Bike Resort. An international team of experts from the mountain bike world came together to create an area that’s both exciting and challenging with an emphasis on gravity.
The Susa valley, which Sauze sits at the head of, offers spectacular XC riding with a great mixture of rough forest roads and high alpine passes that link to neighbouring valleys and offer stunning scenery. The higher Susa valley is an absolute dream for those that like to explore on never ending off road tracks. Old military roads are a common feature and the highest fort in Italy, Jafferau (2775m), will test even the fittest XC rider.
Sauze d’Oulx is in a ideal pace for you to base yourself and explore some of cycling’s legendary alpine climbs. Names such as the Galibier, Telegraphe, Lautaret and Izoard are synonymous with with epic stages in the Tour de France whilst the Giro d’Italia regularly venture up the Col du Mont Cenis and the infamous Colle delle Finestre with it’s 8km of dirt track.
If you don’t fancy hauling your bike over to the alps, or you just fancy trying something new one day then we recommend Faure Sport in the centre of town for bike rental. They have the very latest Specialized bikes to rent.
