Luxury in the Italian Alps

The Principi di Piemonte Sestriere has long had a reputation amongst Turin’s discerning guests since it was built some 80 years ago. It’s a place that you have to experience so when we spotted a cheeky deal for a one night stay at the hotel last week we thought why not treat ourselves before the season starts!

On arrival at the hotel we were given a typically warm and friendly Italian welcome by Marco and his team. The reception area sets the tone for the rest of the hotel with it’s stylish mountain feel finished off at this time of the year with elaborate Christmas decorations.

After a lovely tea and coffee in the bar we headed up to our comfortable room with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

During a visit to the Principi you can’t miss a trip to the wonderful spa. For just €12.50 per visit for hotel guests you can enjoy a swim in the generous pool, chill out in the jacuzzi or relax in one of the sauna, steam room or mediterranean bath areas. There is also an Ice bucket if you are feeling brave! I gave that one a miss!

20161214_184729The hotel offers a traditional Italian aperitivo in the bar at around 6pm every day. With the purchase of an Aperol Spritz or similar delicious drink you can help yourself to an extensive platter of tasty snacks. Make you sure don’t over indulge however as dinner in the restaurant is well worth a visit.

For dinner we opted for the a la carte restaurant. I was delighted to find one of my favourite Piemonte dishes on the the list of starters, Vitello Tonnato (thin slices of veal with a tuna mayonnaise style sauce). This was followed with a delicious saffron and salsiccia risotto. For the main course I chose the vegetarian favourite melanzane parmigiano. If you have space left the selection of desserts is superb. There is a nice healthy option of fruit too.

The hotel does also offer a gourmet restaurant ‘belle epoque’ where you can enjoy a taster menu created by the Michelin starred chef Alessandro Boglione.

The hotel is set in a beautiful location, perched on top of the mountain with amazing views over the surrounding valleys. One fantastic bonus for the hotel is the ski in-ski out location. You can literally ski back down to the hotel entrance (well – just across the road) and in the morning a short ski takes you to the Gondola or chairlift to access both sides of the ski area.

If you’re looking for something a little bit special for your next trip to Sestriere then you have to consider the Principi di Piemonte.
