Ski area
Sestriere is high and northwest fac
ing which has helped give this resort excellent snow records over the years. The skiing is mainly on one side of the valley however on the other side there is a link which takes you to the top of Mount Fraiteve from where you get stunning panoramic views taking in the whole of the Milky Way. From here you have the choice of either dropping into Sauze d’Oulx or SanSicario. Beyond SanSicario there is Cesana, Clavier and eventually Montgenevre across the border in France.
All levels of skier should find something to satisfy them in Sestriere and the neighbouring resorts . There is steep terrain and off-piste for advanced skiers, an endless amount of scope for intermediates and good slopes to learn on for beginners. The lift systmen is continually improving with the majority of lifts being high speed quads. The wonderful thing about Sestriere is that lift queues dont really exist. Weekends and public holidays asisde you tend to ski straight on.
For snowborders and freestyle skiers there is a snowpark that offers a slope style area to test your ariel skills. Sauze d’Oulx also has a snowpark and if you venture over to Montgenevre then there are 2 border cross tracks.
There is the possibility to go heli-skiing for the more adventurous which takes you into the valleys and back country around Sestriere.
